Taking center stage at the Shanghai Auto Show was the Volvo concept Universe.  As the first project done under Peter Horbury since his return to Volvo, and new owner Geely the car marks a departure from current design languages and returns to simple Scandinavian design. But Scotland voted No and Land Rover have revealed a new Union Jack version of the Range Rover Evoque – the Range Rover Evoque SW1. Based on the Evoque Dynamic, the Evoque SW1 comes with a choice of Firenze Red, Fuji White, Loire Blue, Santorini Black or Corris Grey paint, Fuji White roof and stripes, 20″ white alloys and – here comes the ‘Inspired by Britain’ bit – Union Jack graphics on the rear spoiler, door mirrors, gear knob on manual versions and Union Jack tags on the seats, carpets, sill plates and key and ‘RANGE ROVER’ lettering in white on the bonnet.

Jaguar Crossover could be the Q-Type or XQ

The fastest growing segment in the car market is the Crossover / SUV, especially the more compact crossovers. So if Jaguar are going to compete in the big league they’re going to have to tap in to Land Rover’s expertise at some point and come up with their own Crossover (NOT a Jaguar SUV, as Ian Callum made clear). That could perhaps be getting closer with the news that Jaguar has registered both the Q-Type and XQ monikers after Pistonheads played Sherlock and dug the details out from the bowels of the European Union trademark database.
